May 1996: Preon (then called Precise Power, Inc.) is founded as a Power Quality Integrator: sales and turnkey installation of power quality technologies (UPS, Gensets, TVSS, Battery Monitoring, Harmonic Mitigating Transformers, etc.) vendors in the Chicago Metro area.


1997: Preon signs representation contracts with (3) power quality Industry Leaders and sales are robust. The sale of Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors (TVSS) to schools wiring classrooms for computers becomes the dominant business.


1998: The Service business unit is initiated. HQ is established in Chicago. Decatur Office is opened.

1999: Preon recognized as a leading representative firm in the nation for Mitsubishi UPS systems. The City of Chicago requires emergency power upgrades with Central Lighting Inverters and Standby Gensets. Service Department continues to grow. Preon becomes the predominant supplier of UPS and Gensets for Chicago Public Schools.


2000: Preon receives the Steinmetz Award for Technical Merit for Corporate Express ultra reliable/redundant data center in Des Plaines IL.


2001: Denver office is opened to gain access to Wyoming coal bed methane market. Distributed Generation (DG) Business Unit is established.

2002: Preon’s reputation in the industry attracts top DG vendors. Preon lands Elliott Micro Turbine and Encorp representative contracts. Proposals on the Powder River Coal Bed Methane commence.

2003: Preon establishes Preon Powder River, LLC as a means to focus on the coal bed methane opportunity in Wyoming.


2004: Preon applies for patent on “Igloo-Island” power design and Powder River “PowerPod” design.


2005: Preon commissions the first 2 beta site bunkers @ Savanna Army Depot. The PowerPod successfully completes Proof of Concept testing in Gillette Wyoming.

2006: Preon receives 5-year exclusive contract to provide on-site micro turbine power plants and maintenance for Secured Digital Storage


2007: Preon receives contract to provide micro turbine CHP plants for new Chicago Police Stations. Preon opens office in Sheridan Wyoming. Preon engineers broadband over power line solution for remote gas fields.


2008: First Chicago Police Station micro turbine plants are commissioned. First custom micro turbine skids are previewed at the CBM (coal bed methane) Fair in Gillette Wyoming for remote gas operations.


2009: Preon commissions its 3rd Chicago Police Station (District 23) CHP plant. Purchase Order from XTO Energy (Exxon/Mobile) for 6 micro turbines for remote gas development in Utah. Offices opened in New York, Florida and North Carolina. Preon is a speaker at EGSA 2009 Denver, Chicago Energy Summit (Chicago) and Power Gen International (Las Vegas): LOI received for Florida Resort, Illinois commercial/residential high rise and NYC hotel as well as remote gas applications in Utah and Southern Illinois.
