Timothy D. Tawoda, Founder & CEO
Mr. Tawoda has over 25 years of power industry sales and design experience involving both power quality equipment and distributed generation project development. From 1981 through 1995 Tim managed and directed various sales engineering operations on behalf of Westinghouse, Teledyne (NYSE: TDY), and Protech. Tim founded Preon in 1996. In 2000, Mr. Tawoda won the Charles Steinmetz Technical Merit Award from the Chicago Consulting Electrical Engineers and has applied for several patents for the unique control of micro turbines. Mr Tawoda is the company visionary/architect and takes hands-on approach to facilitating major initiatives. Tim earned a Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University. John Sumpter, Senior VP & Partner Mr. Sumpter joined Preon Power in May of 2008 as Senior Vice President of Business Development. At Preon Mr. Sumpter focuses on two critical aspects of the company’s operations; the development of new markets and business sectors for Preon’s energy integration offerings, and on securing the development and investment capital required for Preon’s energy project clients. Prior to joining Preon Mr. Sumpter spent three years as a Managing Director for an investment banking company based in Portland, Oregon where he handled a wide range of financings and restructurings for middle-market companies throughout the U.S., managing transactions from $500,000 to over $5,000,000, working with firms with revenues between $10,000,000 and $125,000,000, and largely focused on renewable energy and biofuels projects. The first eight years of Mr. Sumpter’s career were spent at Prima Systems, Inc., a Seattle, Washington-based subsidiary of Harland Simon Engineering of England, a worldwide industrial process control company in the publishing industry. At Prima, he was responsible for product and business development in North America and Europe. Prima was acquired by Heidelberg AG in 1993 and Mr. Sumpter continued in his principal role for Heidelberg until 1996. Prior to joining Aequitas, he worked for both United Technologies and Carrier Corporation managing the Carrier Financing Solutions program that focused on commercial finance, HVAC and related energy projects. The experience involved business restructuring and recapitalizations, working capital and acquisition financing, as well as major project and equipment financing with particular emphasis on energy savings and large-scale retrofitting and renovation projects. Mr. Sumpter majored in Architecture at Washington State University. Sam Nwansi, CEO of Preon Nigeria, LLC Sam Nwansi has over eighteen years of experience in Project Management and Project Controls. He has served the industrial, commercial, petrochemical, institutional, aviation and residential community development markets, as cost engineer, planner/scheduler, project manager, project controls manager, VP of operations and consultant. He is fluent in resource loaded CPM (Critical Path Method) Scheduling and the use of Primavera project management program. Others include Quantity –Take-Off, Estimating, Access Relational Database design and the application of Earned Value Management System (EVMS), as key project performance metrics for cost and schedule. Mr. Nwansi is a board member and past president of AACEI (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International) Chicago, Midwest Section. He is a frequent proctor of AACEI certification exam and also past national chair for the Building Information Modeling (BIM) committee. Mr. Nwansi has a Bachelors degree in Construction Management Engineering and a Masters Degree in Land-Use and Urban Planning, both from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He is a certified cost engineer and a professional member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Sam and his family live in Skokie Illinois but is looking forward to relocating to his homeland in Nigeria to promote Preon Nigeria LLC.
