Preon’s approach to the design, sale and service of reliable power is bolstered by the confluence of fossil fuel depletion, environmental concerns, regulatory statutes put on electronic data storage, explosive growth in electronic storage demand and the need for processed energy in remote (off-the-grid) areas.

Preon’s end-game is to promote the concept of on-site power generation (Distributed Generation: DG) as the most secure and efficient alternative. Preon’s initial market in 1996 was selling standby power (gensets) and power conditioners (UPS systems) to the data center industry – Power Quality (PQ). Preon’s role as a leading PQ integrator afforded it access to some fringe DG technologies: the common link being engine or turbine generators. In 2001 Preon began to proactively promote and pioneer the concept of DG as more reliable and “green” for data centers. To ride out the perils and costs of developing a new concept, Preon also sold and maintained traditional “commodity” products to the Chicago Metro electrical contractors: UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supplies), standby generators and switchgear used mostly for new data center construction.

To facilitate a comprehensive DG business ability, Preon realized that discrete but complimentary Business Groups were needed. Those segments of Preon are recognized as Sales, Business Development, Engineering/R&D, Application Engineering and Service. Preon has successfully transferred the embryonic “standby power” and “UPS” technical skill sets of PQ to the more advanced engineering requirements of power plant (DG) development and operation. Today Preon is one of the most capable and oldest micro turbine-based Energy Integrators in the nation.
